Energy & Hard Work
When a case sound like "Mission: Impossible" at Bonina & Bonina, the first name that comes to mind is Andrea's.
As the Partner responsible for management of both complex litigation and auto liability, Andrea is in charge of daily management of product liability, construction, labor law, and all auto cases in the office. This compliments her role as managing attorney for the firm, as her familiarity with the court room has helped her focus the firm on efficiency and technology.
Andrea learned the rigors of courtroom combat while still in law school. Her perspective was at the side of a judge, where she earned a job as an intern for a Manhattan Supreme Court Justice.
She later joined her brother John for the intensive training given to all law students.
Andrea was originally assigned to the Medical Negligence Unit. As her dad, John Anthony put it, "If she could handle the most serious and complicated cases, she'd breeze through the others."
After her training period ended, she too had remarkable success in the courtroom. She started at the lowest level of trial lawyer with the most difficult (if not impossible) cases for trial. Her energy and hard work resulted in many miraculous recoveries.
Her courtroom success led to her promotion as Partner in charge of complex litigation and product liability cases. Just as her father and brother before her, she went on to handle national litigation.
Andrea works closely with her father and brother, to plan and prepare for lengthy and complicated trials. Together, they spend many hours going over the details to properly present a complex claim to a jury in simple, understandable form.
"Working together we have learned that juries can tell which attorney truly believes in their client's case, and who is just going through the motions," said Andrea, "that's one of the reasons I use all my energy to fight for my clients."
The skills she developed fighting medical malpractice and complex liability claims has taught Andrea how to work with experts and how to develop and present complicated issues in a simple fashion.
She was recognized by the NYS Trial Lawyers Institute, which invite her to lecture to young lawyers on the subject of cross examination of expert witnesses.
Using Technology
Andrea insists that all members of the med law trial team be computer literate and competent to use technology to investigate all types of cases.
Through training the staff to use the internet and computerized research tools, Andrea has insured that the med law team can accomplish more in more work day than what would have taken months of investigation years ago.
Andrea was recently a guest lecturer at a continuing legal education seminar in Atlantic City, speaking on the topic of "Maximizing Your Practice with Training and Technology".
Helping Others
Her decision to practice law is an outgrowth of her commitment to helping others.
As Co-Chair of an annual fund-raising drive for St. Jude Children's Hospital, Andrea raises thousands of dollars for children stricken with catastrophic diseases. She is also actively involved with her high school Alumni Association in Park Slope.
"There is nothing more professionally satisfying than seeing a case through to conclusion for a genuinely deserving client," she added.
Andrea and her husband Nick, a computer expert for a Wall Street firm, live in Park Slope area Brooklyn and have two children, Charlie and Harry.
